Thielemans jaming in heaven ?!!!...
Sad day this 22th of august 2016... It is very difficult to write such message for such a man that has so marked the music, a tribute to the correct level so I keep simple and spontaneous ...
When I was playing in the bus in Liege (Belgium) in the company of friends from Croch' ASBL for promoting Harmoliège festival, the inevitable question of passengers was: "How is Toots?" ... Toots Thielemans was president of honor of Croch' ASBL.
I even had the pleasure to meet him; Alan Cohen had gone to get him at his home in Brussels, because he wanted a friendly visit to the festival. Inevitably I had to take hundreds of pictures of him in the company of great pride pals to pose with him ... I did not dare ask him (a bit shy and anyway...). I got his best smiles, genuine smiles a real nice person and so humble.
So naturally I have anecdotes about him, very funny, a couple of which related by himself the day he visited us in Liege (5th of October 2008)... people so simple in appearance, humble.
Toots was asthmatic! So it proves that even asthmatic people can play the harmonica, and even become a master ...
I have a thought for his wife, his family and some friends: Olivier Ker Ourio which was very close, the Gregoire family in Liege which I am sure will make him a tribute the 7th to 9th October 2016 to the next Harmoliège ... Baron retired to 94ans, age helping... But Jean-Baptiste Toots Thielemans remains, for eternity! Perhaps even he his jaming at the present time with Benny Goodman, Charlie Parker, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and so on, in the Heaven...
